Advancements in the Green Movement

If you haven’t heard of the Green Movement, you might have been living underground for a couple of decades. The Green Movement, or the Environmental Movement, today consists of both large national groups and also many smaller local groups with local concerns. While most people think the movement began in the 1960s and 1970s, it actually began several decades before! Read on to learn about the Green Movement, its advances, and how DEF is a part of it all!

The early Conservation movement began in the late 19th century, and was focused on conserving fisheries, wildlife management, water, soil, and even sustainable forestry. The Progressive Era focused on the environmental health movement. This meant that there were several urban reforms focused on clean water supply, more efficient removal of raw sewage, and reduction of unsanitary living conditions. Teddy Roosevelt was a prominent conservationist, and he worked hard to conserve natural resources. The modern Environmental movement, which began in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, was concerned about air and water pollution, and it became broader in scope to including all landscapes and human activities. A truly influential book, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson helped to inspire a focus on air pollution, water pollution, solid waste disposal, dwindling energy resources, radiation, and pesticide poisoning. The Environmental Protection Agency was set up to protect the air and environment form toxic emissions, and other, similar agencies emerged to protect wildlife, woodlands, waterways, and other forms of environmental protection.

Since the 1950s, there have been many technological advances. Some have been helpful for the environmental movement, such as the development of BPA free water bottles and reusable grocery bags. The development of hybrids, electric cars, and items like clean diesel are important for the future of the environmental movement as well. There have also been advances in legislation, like the passing of certain laws to protect endangered species, water conservation laws, and the reduction of emissions laws. In fact, just recently in 2010, the EPA published a series of laws that demanded diesel-engine vehicles to reduce their emissions to nothing, which led to the development of a new, environmentally friendly product for any diesel car, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)!

One of the more exciting technological advances for the environmental movement has been the development and incorporation of DEF. Unlike previous technologies, DEF is incorporated into Selective Catalytic Reaction technology and is able to clean up diesel emissions! This means that all the horrible pollutants previously released in the air (nitrogen oxides and particulate matter) is turned into harmless chemicals: nitrogen and water! As a distributor of DEF, Victory Blue is extremely proud to be a part of the environmental movement and encourages everyone to do their part. Buy DEF for your car, truck, or fleet, and make sure that you reduce, reuse, and recycle!
